Snag Island

A northwest contemporary project with detached guest house located on a spectacular Lake Tapps peninsula with views to Mount Rainier and adjoining lake.  The main residence turns its back to the north of the site through the use of a monolithic two-story wall that shields visitors from the magnificent views beyond the main entry door.  The residence is orientated east of south to directly align with Mount Rainier which affords views of the mountain from every room in the house.  The “L” shaped plan allows for a simple circulation pattern reinforced through strong structural expression and creates a large outdoor room to the southwest that takes advantage of evening light and sunsets around the exterior fireplace.
